Why does the VR1 only have 25 and 26inch barrels? We did plenty of testing on these rifles before deciding on the length of the barrel, velocity is a little slower. The 25 or 26 inch barrels give 2640 fps from our semi-automatic rifle in 408 Cheytac. The Windrunners with a 30 inch barrel and bolt action give 2700 fps. So were giving up 60 fps for weight and maneuverability. The accuracy is still very good hitting the 5 and 10 inch dinger at 1000 yards consistently.
How did you make the price so resonable? It hasn't been easy getting the price down so the general Sportsman can afford it, but were always trying to improve our process to cut the overhead. The rifles function and shoot accurately. The workmanship is second to none. I don't think we really have much competition when it comes to a great functioning Semi-automatic rifle chambered in 338 Lapua, 375 and 408 Cheytac and of course the 505 Gibbs.
How does the gas operating system work on the VR1? We use a .900 diameter 17-4 ph Stainless piston to drive the bolt reward. The Jam Rod which pushes the bolt only has to move 3/4 on an inch to achieve cycling. We take the gases from closer than most semi-auto rifles where the gases are hotter and cleaner. The piston drive area never really gets dirty, we call it maintenance free. The dirty gases and unburned powder never enter the upper receiver area, so the rifles stays cleaner/longer and keep on functioning. You'll notice the large front stock covers up the gas operating system, it's the look we wanted Clean lines and more Hunt than a Black Stick.
